Aging in place can sometimes have a negative feeling attached. Along with Universal Design, many people think if they design their home with Aging in place in mind it will end up ugly or sterile looking. Today we’re going to show you that those assumptions and fears are wrong. Below we are going to give you a tour of 3 of our favorite again in place projects.
While preparing their home to age with them, our clients came to us with very specific needs to address. They wanted a modern style master bathroom that would be sleek and functional for many years to come.
White Corian countertops, beautiful wood cabinetry, and contemporary lighting, combined with polished chrome fixtures, pull together this modern ensemble.
Thoughtful use and application of Universal Design principles make this master bathroom future proof. The space under their sinks is large and open for a possible future wheelchair access. Heated porcelain tile floors insure comfort on cool mornings. The heated bidet seat provides a touch of luxury and practicality all wrapped into one.
The shower was designed with barrier-free access. The wood grain patterned porcelain floor tile adds a touch of warmth to the room, and the accent glass mosaic tile in the niche adds a modern feel to the shower.
The contrasting color and shade choices were made strategically to provide safe use even as eyesight is diminished with aging. With an adjustable shower head, that can also be a handheld, and a large grab bar, this shower is ready for all of life’s changes. This bathroom truly is a perfect combination of Modern and Universal Design.

Our clients came to us in need of a renovation to make their home more wheelchair accessible by creating a first floor bedroom and bathroom in their two-story home. They also wanted the bedroom suite to be connected and accessible to the kitchen, living room and the outdoors.
Another important priority was to keep the addition of the accessible features from looking industrial and maintain their home’s very warm and traditional feel.
The bedroom suite was tackled with a small addition to the rear of the home. We also added a deck with a ramp leading to the driveway to provide easier access and a connection to the outdoors. The plantings, outdoor furniture, and wind chimes make this outdoor space one that welcomes you to stay and relax for a while.
In the new bathroom, we designed a large zero-barrier shower with handheld sprayers and a large bench making access and assisted bathing easier. The vanity sinks have a lot of depth and space under them for easy wheelchair accessibility. The tan, porcelain tile floor, and shower walls along with the dark wood, raised panel cabinets bring a very warm and inviting feeling to the space.
Bauscher Construction is very proud of this project, and it won a National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Contractor of the Year Award.

Breathing new life into a tired Blue Ash Condo. The goal of this whole house renovation was updating the outdated finishes, adding Universal Design for long-term aging in place, and adding a splash of style to a vanilla space.
To do this, we improved the workflow of the kitchen and opened it to the dining area. Making
