Mason Universal Design Deck Addition

Our clients came to us in need of a renovation to make their home more wheelchair accessible by creating a first-floor bedroom and bathroom in their two-story home. They also wanted the bedroom suite to be connected and accessible to the kitchen, living room and the outdoors. Another important priority was to keep the addition of the accessible features from looking industrial and maintain their home’s very warm and traditional feel.
The bedroom suite was tackled with a small addition to the rear of the home. We also added a deck with a ramp leading to the driveway to provide easier access and a connection to the outdoors. The plantings, outdoor furniture, and wind chimes make this outdoor space one that welcomes you to stay and relax for a while.
In the new bathroom, we designed a large zero-barrier shower with handheld sprayers and a large bench making access and assisted bathing easier. The vanity sinks have a lot of depth and space under them for easy wheelchair accessibility. The tan, porcelain tile floor, and shower walls along with the dark wood, raised panel cabinets to bring a very warm and inviting feeling to the space.
Bauscher Construction is very proud of this project, and it won a National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Contractor of the Year Award.
