While there are some common threads in all remodeling projects, the goals for your project will be uniquely yours. After all, you live in and use your home in a way that is unique to your family.
In the early planning stage, don’t burden yourself with trying to think in terms of where the walls will be or how to solve challenges. This is why you hire a professional. At this early time, think about things in terms of what you would like to do in the space(s), and don’t let your dreaming be held up by perceived obstacles. Start a brainstorming list as you go to jot down anything and everything that comes to mind. Talk to your spouse or family members who will also use the space(s) and get their input and ideas as well. You may be thinking, My home works fine, it’s just that my cabinets are really ugly, and that’s fine too, put it on the list.
Also, listing the things you dislike is just as important as what you want to at this stage. Think of this goal setting like deciding what you want to do on vacation, not where you’re going or how you’ll get there. Do you want to swim at a beach, or hike in the mountains? Once you know this, we can build a plan to get you where you want to go. As your remodeling guides, we’ll help you figure out the what, and then develop a plan for how you’ll achieve those goals.
