Our clients loved the mid-century modern architecture of their home and were dedicated to respecting its heritage by restoring the kitchen and first-floor living areas to the original style. They also wanted to open up the living spaces and update the worn-out fixtures and finishes.
Our first step was to team up with Tess Hilgefort of Square Inch Design to work out ways to relocate some of the structural posts that were in the way. With the structural issues solved, we had some fun with the design and aesthetics of the space. To really bring the mid-century modern style back to life, we installed custom cabinetry with a flush door style and polished chrome hardware. The built-in refrigerator allowed us to maintain the flush, linear design throughout the cabinetry. The clients chose very modern quartz Calacatta Nutura for the countertop surfaces. The new microwave drawer and induction stove top really brought this kitchen’s functionality into the twenty-first century. We installed oak hardwood flooring to match all the existing hardwood and sanded and refinished the new and existing floors for an even color and sheen. The large island in the center adds more counter space and is a great place for guests to sit while entertaining. With the addition of some beautifully selected furnishings, the space came together seamlessly and accomplished all our clients’ goals.
